ORONOCO COMMUNITY CENTER

Our goal is to provide a fun, learning environment while introducing boys and girls ages 4-6 to the game of t-ball. This program is intended to be a low key introduction to the young player. To make this a positive experience for these children, we ask that you consider volunteering your time to guide the children in their play. No experience required. We would like to have 2-3 adult volunteers per team.

Season: Tuesday evenings June 12 – July 31st (NO T-BALL JULY 3)
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Place: Memorial Field, behind Tilly’s Tavern

Cost: $5.00 per child, t-shirt included. No one denied due to inability to pay.

Tuesday evenings will include 30 minutes of instruction by parent volunteers followed by 60 minutes of scrimmage with an opposing team. There will be 10-12 players per team with a mixture of ages 4-6. We encourage parents to accompany their children during this time although it is not required.

Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact either number below or e-mail skywatchweather@gmail.com.

Help us build for the future...again!

Build for the future…part II

That’s right! Oronoco will add another park this fall and we need your help! We had an amazing group of volunteers last year and we are optimistic that this install will be a piece of cake compared to our last site. We can promise there won’t be any rock to jackhammer!

This fantastic new playground will be in one of Oronoco’s newest subdivisions, Riverpark. It’s on the east side of HWY 52. The installation of this park is made possible because of a joint partnership between Journey Developing and the City of Oronoco.

Riverpark will be slightly larger than the one in Riverwood Hills, but should be easier to install if we have an appropriate number of volunteers. This project will be completed in one day if everything goes according to schedule.

Here’s the important info:

Install date: September 16 (rain or shine)
Time: Install starts at 7:30 a.m. and we hope to complete the project by late afternoon. (You don’t need to be there the whole time.)
Volunteers needed: Installers (no experience necessary), food helpers, and a cheering section (just kidding).

T-Ball Pictures

If you're interested in having a picture of your child in full t-ball attire, just download these then take the digital image to any digital film developer to make the print. Target, Walmart and many others have this service, or you can use an online provider like Shutterfly, Snapfish or Yahoo! Photos.

It's been almost 6 months since we completed our two new parks and we're gearing up for another season of park and rec activities in Oronoco. Here's what you can expect this year.

1) Look for new park signage and trails this spring. Currently the best way to reach the Riverwood Hills park is via an unmarked trail off of Sunny View Lane SW. We have now marked the area with orange flags. Within the next few weeks the trails will be better marked, and hopefully completed in their finished format. We apologize the mess and inconvenience in the meantime.

2) Landscaping including trees and grass plantings will be completed early this year in some parks.

3) Look for more recreation opportunities, including a women's softball league and kids t-ball. Both programs will start soon.

4) We're also looking at a few more projects once we have completed our spring work and as funding allows.

As always, we're interested in more committee members. If you are interested or have ideas or questions about our parks contact Adam Brase at skywatchweather@gmail.com.

They're OPEN

From the looks of it, we didn't need to tell you that, but for the most part, both parks are open and ready for playdates!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered this past weekend to bring the project to near completion.

Over the course of the next few days you'll see the swings go on at Riverwood Hills. You'll also see the teeter-totter find its permanent home and the benches will be placed at each park. Site grading will be completed yet this fall.

We'll have pictures here within the next few days. Thanks, Oronoco, for your support!
